SuperBowl nite (stupor bowl?)

While others are wearing out there larynx's and stuffing themselves on junk food,

I

am sitting at my desk with slide rule and paper calculating concrete needs for the footer to my house. LOL (and yes, you read that right, SLIDE RULE good enough to get men to the moon and create the original atomic bomb; good enough for me to build a house.)

Plus, I gotta go to bed early as I am working OT tomorrow covering for my boss. Bad news came late and he is taking a bad turn in his chemo. Praying for him. He is good people and I would really hate to see him go south this far along in the game.

Those of us that know the old school ways are much better off for when SHTF. Batteries in general are known for failure. Low tech is reliable !

A decent sliderule will get you close enough to three decimal places. Most machining is within that range and I don't see much reason for getting anymore accurate than that with most math. Granted there are times, but for day to day stuff, good enough.

I despise Japanese "close tolerances". Outboard boat engines, salt water, and close tolerances don't mix. Give me a sloppy old Evinrude any day! Much easier to work on, and last just as long, if not longer... I need to learn how to use a slide rule...

LOL Actually they really aren't all that hard to use, Just have to have a couple of 'hard rules' in your head for getting the right answer. The one I have is has a second and third hairline for determining Hp/KW conversions and Bar weights in steel. The really neat thing about them is being able to see Several answers to a problem at the same time. Great for doing ratio calculations when you may have multiple inputs with a common denominator.

I'm sorry about the boss and hope that he get's better. Much better. That said, watch the 'go South' comments, Bub... Besides, wouldn't that be like in down?

Anon 12:04 - You're right, I probably could have used a little better discretion in choice of words. Shows where I was raised doesn't it? LOL and yes, it does mean "going down"

Still, its my blog and I write from the hip. I am sure that I will offend someone at some point or time or another. This isn't about facts 100% of the time so much as my opinions. That and just getting stuff out in the open so it doesn't bottle up and explode.

I'm a hardcore redneck Southerner, and I take NO offense whatsoever at the phrase "going south". In fact I use it myself from time to time.
